Irvine leaders ask again what people want, As more of Great Park is developed

Over the next few months, Irvine officials want residents to tell them what they want built on more than 200-acres of undeveloped land in the city’s Great Park.

The outreach, in the form of town halls, HOA meetings and online interactive sites hosted between now and December, will capture ideas as city staffers work to create a new master plan for the 1,300-acre park. With the number of residents in Great Park-adjacent neighborhoods ballooning over the past several years, Irvine leaders said they are looking again at the vision for the recreational area so newcomers can give input on future development.

The last master plan was approved in 2014, said Great Park manager Steve Torelli. At a town hall meeting Thursday night, more than 100 people filled Hangar 24 – adjacent to the glowing Great Park balloon – where several exercises were set up to collect thoughts and concerns.
